Fires in Victoria

My heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by the horrific fires that have devastated parts of Victoria, Australia.

Re: Fires in Victoria

Approximately at least 125 people dead this morning, 750 or more houses (lots of other buildings as well) which = up to 2500 buildings, half of Victoria burnt 2 the ground, like a million hecdares, 'bout 3 or 4 whole towns completely demolished by fire, A legendary news reader (a.k.a anchorman) & his wife died, and power overload's that are cutting peoples power everywhere. A fire near me, tis' called the Bunyip Ridge fire but it's blowing the other direction & it's currently 2500 hecdares. That's all the way to Pakenham and that's 15 minutes drive away. & guess what it's flooding in up north Oz, Queensland. Now this is where I say: BRITAIN GIVE US YOUR SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Fires in Victoria

It is all too sad. And so many have lost their homes and all their possessions.

Re: Fires in Victoria

I heard 173 people dead this morning I'm not sure how many at the moment sad almost 200. I've got a fire either side of me now, well ya know not directly but... ya know. I might be evacuating soon. CFA (that's our fire fighters over here, Country Fire Authority) meeting last night said that we had to beware and get out while we can, they said that if you see flames it's too late to leave, and you have to stay and defend your house.

Re: Fires in Victoria

14 Feb 2009, a week after Black Saturday.

181 people confirmed dead, 7500 houses. Smoke flooded through my town this morning, past my house. CFA and the cops caught the arsonist of the Churchill fire. He now has an, how you say, angry mob after him now many think he should be burned, my friend said he should be burned in his own death causing flames. The worst week in Aussie history.

Re: Fires in Victoria

On the bright side.... The Aussie cricketers went to Whittlesea (I think) where the fires hit the worst & all the small children had a fairly good time playing mini cricket. (I've always wanted to meet the Aussie cricketers hey there's a 20twenty match on today! big_smile) Most of the grieving has been pushed aside the sorrow has been saved for another day and determination has overcome the residents currently rebuilding their towns. We got the army peoples to help clear up and some forensic's from New Zealand with their specially trained dogs that sniff out human remains. We also borrowed the biggest helicopter in the southern hemisphere, last week, from our sister country (NZ). & thats about it for now.

Australian bushfires toll rises

The number of people known to have died in the Australia bushfires has risen to 208, but police say they do not expect the death toll to go much higher.

Police recovered bodies in Flowerdale and in Marysville, one of the worst-hit towns in south-eastern Victoria state.

Australians will remember all the victims of the recent bushfires in a national day of mourning on Sunday.

Why is it so bad that it's at Rod Laver Arena, Identity?

Don't worry White_Wolf today is pretty damp.

National Mourning Day tomorrow.

The death toll has risen by 1.
