Windows 7 now available to all
The latest Windows release will be available to everyone after a surge in demand crashed the Microsoft website on 9 January, the original release date.
In response, the company has lifted a planned limit on the number of copies of the Windows 7 Beta available for download.
Microsoft delayed the launch by one day to add more infrastructure and servers to cope with demand.

XKCD cuts right to the bone.
Anyway ... I have heard that Windows 7 is just Vista with less annoying prompts.
What we really need is a more user-friendly Linux.

Well, I havent had any really serious problems with Vista so far. Once I downloaded the Vista Service Pack while getting upgrades but the installation was botched. I then ran a system restore and have never bothered to install any Service Pack snce. Moreover, programs which did not run Vista when I first got Vista have mostly now been modified to run on Vista.
So Im fairly content with Vista at the moment.

The system resources quoted to be needed to run Vista have always put me off of it straight away, i don't have the most powerful computer as it is, and i really don't want to have my programs run any slower than they already do.

Microsoft steps up browser battle
Microsoft has stepped up the battle to win back users with the latest release of its Internet Explorer browser.
The US software giant says IE 8 is faster, easier to use and more secure than its competitors.
We have made IE 8 the best browser for the way people really do use the web, said Microsofts Amy Barzdukas.

Competition Rules! Firefox/Opera/etc have spurred MS to make a better IE.

I havent tried IE8 yet (I didnt even know the beta version had come out). However Im so happy with Firefox now that I dont feel much inclination to go and get IE8.

The simple browser, Google Chrome is quite nice, I've been using it for a month.
It's nice because you can start it up before or just as your wireless is initializing,
and no homepage opens up, so then you can type what you are looking for, then
when the wireless balloon appears, wham, you press enter, and you are there.
It is tabbed and very simple to use.

maxthon is pretty cool. You just need to drag a gesture on mouse while pressing right button to close a tab.

yup i have used maxthos, sleipnir, chrome, mozilla, and now i m gonna try IE8. Chrome i didnt like as much because it got beaten by other browsers like maxthon and sleipnir as they had a lot less glitches when they came out. They are very similar and sometimes even better.

Not liking IE 8, it lags a lot when i m on facebook while firefox runs smoothly. I guess they will fix it over time...

The lag may be due to the computer being low on RAM. My computer is. Even IE7 lags a great deal for me when Im running it together with Firefox.

Y would IE8 affect RAM a lot more than any other browser? I dont think that should be a problem if they are improving it and trying to compete with other browsers out there. I use Firefox/Maxthon and Sleipnir easily, no lag at all but just IE8.
My RAM is just at 512 MB , i kno its low but everything else works fine with it.
