The excel function STDEVP should do it for you.
For example, =STDEVP(1,9) would calculate the standard deviation of 1 and 9 and so return 2.
If you want to use the formula that divides by n-1 instead of n, then use STDEV instead (although if you're using a large amount of data then it shouldn't matter too much).
