Parabola question

If someone could please help me with this, I would be extremely grateful since I've been at it for hours and I'm still confused:

I have a folding map f going from a 2 dimensional space to another 2 dimensional space below:

It consists of these two equations:

x = a + b
y = a^2 - 6ab

The question is:  Find the equation for the parabola (in the x-y plane) on which the fold is located?

Re: Parabola question

Can you explain what a, b, x, and y are?
Sounds interesting.
