Can anyone figure this out??

ratio scale of 1: 12,000 he wants to drive if the round-trip distance is more than one
mile (1 mile = 5280 feet). You quickly size up the situation, and notice that it is exactly 3 inches on the map from the office to Mikes
a) What is the two-way distance in miles?
b) Does he walk, or does she drive?

Re: Can anyone figure this out??

A distance of 3 inches on the map represents a real life distance of 3 x 12,000 = 36,000 inches. You need to convert this into feet in order to answer the question. There are 12 inches in a foot, so the total number of feet is 36,000 / 12 = 3000 feet. The two way distance is therefore 2 x 3000 = 6000 feet, which is more than a mile - so he drives.
