Conservation of Mechanical Energy

We need to know the elevation, y, through which the glider falls.  Show that for small angles, q, the elevation, y, is given by:

y = DH/L

where D, H, and L are defined on the figure:)

Is the angle q the angle below the horizontal line?
Are you using the fact that the sine or "sin" of a
small angle below 1 degree, but in radians, is
nearly the same as the same angle in radians,
without taking its sine?
