percentage

please help me I have problem with concept of percentage


an increase of $0,15 on a price of 2,50 is an increse by a fraction of 0.15/2.50=0,06

expressed as a percentage,therefore a 6% increase


I don,t understand this

and why we put 0.15 is numerator


Is percentage is change over the whole

One way you can understand this is to setup percentages as ratios of fractions.

You can say:

0.15/2.50 = x/100

In here your saying that 0.15 is to 2.50 as x is to 100. In here x represents the percentage increase. If you solve for x then:

x = 15/2.5
x = 6

which gives you the percentage.
