Re: solve

A)

making the denominators the same:

multiplying both sides by 15 now removes the denominator

B)

giving both sides the same denominator:

multiplying both sides by 3 to remove the denominator

Re: solve

It's easy to check whether a potential answer is right; you just have to plug it into the original equation and see if it works.

For example, the book gives the answer to A as -11/2.

Plugging that in, you get

Therefore, (-4)-(-7) = 1/3. But (-4)-(-7) = 3, not 1/3, so the answer doesn't work.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: solve

Please find the answer to the solved equation

Get the 1/3 to the left hand side. Now the denominators are the same. The equation can be solved in this way.
=>(2x-1)/3-(1/3)=(6x-2/5)
=>2(x-1)/3=2(3x-1)/5
cancell 2 from both the sides and cross multiply i.e. multiply 5 with the left hand side and 3 with the right hand side
=>5(x-1)=3(3x-1)
=>5x-5=9x-3
=>-2=4x
or x=-1/2

b) 2p+5=9p-30
or 7p=35
or p=5

Re: solve

Yup, the textbook answers are wrong. That or you've given us different questions to the ones in the book.
