The marked price of a book isRs 15.75 .If the shopkeeper allows Rs 3.15 discount, calculate  the rate of discount.

because 3.15 and 15.75 both have points , can we cancel the points ?

thank you

Re: %

Well, you want to find 3.15 as a percentage of 15.75, so you divide 3.15 by 15.75 and multiply by 100. This is the same as dividing 315 by 1575 and multiplying by 100 – so you can do this instead, if you find it easier. smile

Re: %

15.75 rupees is 3.15 + 3.15 + 3.15 + 3.15 + 3.15 rupees.
Hence............... 20%    40%    60%    80%    100%

So the answer is a 20% discount.
