Have you tried multiplying [math\left(1+\frac{a-b}{b-c}+\frac{b-c}{c-a}+\frac{c-a}{a-b} \right)^2 [/math] out?

I've tried for ages to equate them perfectly, and, I mean, it seems rather random to suddenly try adding that square on.
Ok I finally got them to equate, but how did they know to add on that square? Was it just something that was done by chance or inspection?
