Re: Hello!

Hello, Daniel123. Your interest in mathematics is looked kindly upon here and you will have a lot of enjoyment here. smile

As you may have noticed, my name is Devantè; That is my real name. I currently have the most posts here. big_smile

If you have any questions, ask any of our kind moderators. You can look at who they are by looking at the Index page (home forum page) and viewing their profiles. You can even ask me. Be expected to get insulted by one of our first moderators, Zach, because that is the norm for everyone here. Don't take it too seriously, though, he is quite a nice person. We love our Zachy. big_smile

You may have noticed some of the forum ranks, too. You are currently a Member, which is good. You start at Novice until you reach 5+ posts, and you stay as a Member until you reach 30+ posts, where you become a Full Member. For people who stay at the forum, 250+ posts are required for the rank of Power Member, and for those big-posters out there, 1000+ posts makes you a Super Member. You can only become a Real Member if the administator trusts you, and you will get access to a few special privileges that I will not reveal. big_smile

You could start by reading the Forum Rules. Have fun posting here, you'd be surprised by the logical thinking and overall brains of this forum. The 0.999...Recurring thread got quite controversial, I must say. smile

Insomnia is currently away at the moment as he is quite busy, but he'll be back soon...hopefully.

Oh, and the 'new' version of the forum, which is this version, started January 2005.

Re: Hello!

Thanks a lot Devantè... cool name by the way... where's it from? Im already enjoying the forum a lot, and I have learned a lot of new things! And i had a look at the 0.999 thing... I came to my own personal conclusion that it does in fact equal 1... im not 100% sure why though.

Thanks for the introduction...:)

Re: Hello!

most simple proof:

that is valid, because there are an 'infinite' amount of 9's contrary to normal rules, multiplying by 10 does not change the number of 9's after the decimal point, as infinity - 1 = infinity

Re: Hello!

No problem. The name 'Devantè' actually has a Hindu origin, meaning 'God', and in Spanish means 'Fighter of Wrong'. I believe it is also French...and thanks. smile

Welcome!

Re: Hello!

My my, that was a lot of cheesy grins.

Real Members aren't as big a deal as Devantè makes out, to be honest. A while ago, people were requesting a PM system, and MathsIsFun was worried about what that would imply for internet safety and the like. So he implemented a tentative system that only a few people could use (Real Members) and nothing much has been done about it since. I'm sure he'll be happy to let you in on the system if you ask him. It's got quite limited use though, because only Real Members can read the PMs they receive. roll

Zach hasn't actually been that bad recently. Besides, he only insults people who act stupidly, so you'll probably be safe. smile

Anyway, welcome to the forum, Daniel. Have lots of fun.

Re: Hello!

That's strange, for some reason you are not yet a Full Member. Maybe it's been changed to 50 or something.

Re: Hello!

Isn’t it 100 posts for Full Member? I could have sworn that I got my Full Membership at 100 posts. Unless my memory is playing tricks on me. neutral

Re: Hello!

No, it isn't. There is not currently any rank for 100 posts, it has always been for 5, (10), 30, 250, and 1000 posts.

Re: Hello!

You get Full Member at post #50. I'm pretty sure it's always been that way.

Re: Hello!

Huh?

It's always been 30, and it's been said on numerous occasions. I'm 100% confident that it is.

...

Not that big a deal, though.

Re: Hello!

There is only one way to resolve this dispute and that is to check this page:
http://www.mathsisfun.com/forum/userlis … r=DESC&p=2

It is therefore 50 posts to Full Member.

Re: Hello!

Hmm...but that is the new system, then. Because I have always known that you become a Full Member after 30 posts.

http://www.mathsisfun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=28695#p28695

That is Ganesh's post.

It was 30 posts, and for some reason it is now 50.

It's kind of sad that I've been slipping in activity levels lately...I've been quite busy.

Looks like Mathsyperson has already answered that question of yours in the Help Me! section...but it was nice to solve, though.
