You're certainly right. Mathematics is a part of many things and cannot actually be categorised simply on its own. It is an interesting subject to study, but some of the stuff you learn will not come in handy if you decide to pursue a career which does not require a lot of mathematical skills. But certain careers require superb mathematical skills, which makes mathematics so important. At the same time, it can be fun and cool at the same time. A lot of people disagree, which is absolutely fine, since sometimes it is down to opinion and decision.
