Umm, fatmanscoop is correct. The area of a triange is equal to half of its base multiplied by its height.

No idea why the angry emoticons are there, though. Annoyance? Stress relief?

I think they represent something along the lines of
"omigod that was an easy question stop asking easy questions jeeeeez", or something like that.

Not to worry though. While this kind of question may be easy to someone like fatmanscoop, we were all at that level sometime. A good way of seeing why this is true is to imagine putting another triangle of the same side next to the original one. Then they should combine to make a rectangle, and so the area of one triangle will be half the area of that rectangle.

Edit: My friendly resident super-ninja tells me that rogerrabbit and fatmanscoop are actually the same person! yikes
