I stayed sitting in a seat for 1 hour trying to work this out. I thought the Norwiegien owned the fish. The Brit owned Birds, the Dane owned Horses, the Swede owned Dogs, and the German owned Cats. The only clue I didn't understand was the second-last one. All the people had a sport or a drink,so I just supposed that the publishers made a mistake or I did.
Person          HouseColour    Pet    Sport    Drink    House Number
Brit          Red                    Birds     Polo    Milk              3
Dane          Blue                    Horses    Billards    Tea              2
Swede          Green                    Dogs    Baseball    Coffee              4
Norwiegien     Yellow                    Fish    Hockey    Beer              1
German          White                    Cats    Soccer    Water              5

Who owns the fish? It's the German, of course. I spent ages working it out!

I am tutoring a young man in grade 6 who I believe has the correct answer to who owns the fish. He answered as follows
House 1, Yelow, Norwegian, Water, Hockeyand cats.
house 2, Blue, Danish, tea, Baseball and Horses.
House 3, Red, Bitish, Milk, Polo and birds.
House 4, Green, German, Coffee, Soccer and fish.
House 5, White, Swedish, Beer, Billards and Dogs.
can you please let us know if we are correct thank you .

im sorry to bring up an old topic, but i get a lot of different solutions. The problem was on noggintwister and i can make different combinations that all follow the "rules" and all gives different answers....have i missed something, or are the clues wrong? and is that alergic thing, is that some kind of clue?

okey i looked at the version at this website, and it actually has one more clue than the one at noggintwisters. I tested it and solved it on ~10 minutes. annoying

I got the same solution as keith_27, charmaine and JaneFairfax.
The key assumption I made that turns out to be part of this solution is that the green house is ADJACENT to the white one. In American English, at least, the statement "the green house is to the left of the white one" would be true even if the green one were #1 and the white one were at #5. Maybe this is more clear in British English.

My friend's 8 year-old girl solved this problem in 2 hours. So week-sitter take note!

The funny thing about this game is that they claim that only 2% can solve it.
MS Excel helped me to solve by eliminating way in around 20 minutes.

The problem isn't too difficult if you lay the information out (viz., in a grid) and fill in information and eliminate possibilities.
My answer was the same as everyone's except the original poster:
Norwegian : house 1 - yellow - water- hockey - cats
Dane : house 2 - blue - tea - baseball - horses
Brit : house 3 - red - milk - polo - birds
German : house 4 - green - coffee - soccer - ?
Swede : house 5 - white - beer - billiards - dogs
The German owns the fish.
To the poster above, the Crocodile puzzle is much easier as the information does not leave any logic gaps that you have to fill yourself.
I really enjoyed both puzzles, especially since I haven't really done much in the way of math since high school--10 years ago.:P

I have a different answer but it still works out. I think where I went different was the clue about the green house being on the left of the white. I interpreted that as it only had to be on the left, not directly on the left. My answer is as follows:
House 1 Norwegian, Green, Coffee, Baseball and FISH
House 2 German, Blue, Water, Soccer and cats
House 3 Swede, Yellow, milk, hockey and dogs
House 4 Brit, Red, Beer, Billiards and horses
House 5 Dane, white, tea, polo adn Birds.
It still works and no clue says it is directly on the left just on the left. Guess it can be interpreted different ways.

There is no ambiguity in the question and there is no different answers can be drawn in this problem.
Few people solved the problem as white house coming in the fifth position which is not correct. Green house situated to the left of the white house is not to left of us when we watch the houses facing front side of the houses
So the answer is :
1. Yellow House-Norvegion-Hockey-Water-Cats
2. Blue House- Danish-Baseball-Tea-Horses
3. Red House - British - Polo - Milk- Birds
4. White House - Swedish - Billiards - Beer - Dog
5. Green House - German - Soccer - Coffee - FISH
