Re: Help Plz

Ah, of course. I was nearly there, but then got thrown off by all the carried tens and didn't spot that solution. Very well done. smile

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: Help Plz

I'm terrible at this kind of stuff, as well as multiplication. How do you work this out?

Re: Help Plz

Logical deduction, mostly.

The first clue is that you're adding two 4-digit numbers together to get a 5-digit number. The two numbers you're adding together can't be more than 9999 each, so the answer can't be more than 19998, which means that M has to correspond to 1.

Now we have that the second number you're adding is restricted to a maximum of 1999, so the maximum total is now 11998. This means that the second digit of the total is either 1 or 0. But 1 has already been assigned to M, so O has to be 0.

That's the starting point, and you just continue like that. It gets a more complicated now though, because tens carrying over the the next column can confuse things a bit.
