driving down a mountain. Ed finds he has descended 1800ft. in elevation by the time he is 3.25mi. horizontally away from the top of the mountain. Find the slope of his descent to the nearest hundredth.
Is this what I am suppose to do: y=3.25x +1800; if so I am stuck in a rut after I got that far

The slope is "rise over run". The rise is the change in the Y axis, in this case is 1800 feet. The run is the the change in the x axis, in this case it is 3.25 mile. So the slope is 1800 feet/ 3.25 mile. There's 5280 feet in a mile.
