The length of a rectangular playing field is 5 ft. less than twich its width. If the perimeter of the playing field is 230 ft, find the length and width of the field.

If we say that the width is x feet long, then we know that the length is (2x-5) feet.
The perimeter is given by 2*(length + width), which means that 2*((2x-5)+x) = 230.
Simplifying: 6x-10 = 230
6x = 240
x = 40.
And now that we know the width is 40 feet, we can work out that the length is 75 feet.
Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Awesome...for some reason I had 36 2/3 for width and 78 1/3 for lengths!
