Re: add following fractions

Well, I'm going to give you a hint.

2/y + y/y + 1 = 2/y + 2

Re: add following fractions

I'm assuming that you mean

, because otherwise it would be fairly trivial.

If this is the case, then you need to get both fractions to have the same denominator:

You can then combine the two:

The numerator cannot be factorised, so you can either leave it like that, or you could turn it into:

, which can become
.

Either way is right.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

Re: add following fractions

ok i see what you mean but look at this
cant you do it this way:
you said
y^2 + y + y + 2
--------------------
y ( y + 1)
correct
now cant you cross out the y's?
leaving
y^2 + 2 / 1 ?

Re: add following fractions

No, as I said in the other topic, you can only simplify things by crossing them off each side if each side is only made up of stuff multiplied by each other. If there is any addition involved, then you can't cancel like that.

You can't make the fraction into anything simpler than my answer.
