Forum Features

Let's put all the different forum features here as an "easy reference".

The Hide Tag

We have a "Hide" tag, which lets you enter your answer but people have to click on a button to see it. This lets other people have a go without seeing your answer. It doesn't really hide it, but does remove it by one click.

You use it like this (use [] not {} ):

My answer {hide=is this}42 !{/hide}

My answer

The Math Tag

Allows you to use LaTeX to format math expressions very neatly.

See: http://www.mathsisfun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1581
Also: A LaTeX tutorial.

Other Tags

Code:

M[sub]a[/sub]=x[sup]e[/sup]

[align=left]left[/align]
[align=center]center[/align]
[align=right]right[/align]
[align=justify]here is a fairly long piece of text so that you can see how justify works. I will say again "here is a fairly long piece of text so that you can see how justify works". Is that OK?[/align]

right

here is a fairly long piece of text so that you can see how justify works. I will say again "here is a fairly long piece of text so that you can see how justify works". Is that OK?

Instructions for more basic tags can be found here.

Special Smileys

To make any of these work, put a ":" in front of the text:

alpha=α and=∧ ang=∠ asymp=≈ beta=β bull=• cap=∩ cong= cup=∪ deg=° Delta=Δ delta=δ divide=÷ empty=∅ epsilon=ε equiv= exist=∃ fnof=ƒ forall=∀ frac12=½ frac14=¼ frac34=¾ gamma=γ ge=≥ harr= hArr= infin=∞ int=∫ isin=∈ lambda=λ laquo=« larr= lArr= le=≤ mu=μ nabla=∇ ne=≠ ni=∋ notin=∉ nsub=⊄ omega=ω oplus=⊕ otimes=⊗ part=∂ Phi=Φ pi=π plusmn=± prime=′ Prime=″ prod=∏ prop=∝ radic=√ raquo=» rarr= rArr= rho=ρ Sigma=Σ sigma=σ sim=∼ sube=⊆ sub=⊂ sum=∑ sup1=¹ sup2=² sup3=³ supe=⊇ sup=⊃ tau=τ there4=∴ theta=θ times=× xi=ξ zeta=ζ

I also did a trick with some of them, for example "pi" looks a lot more like pi really does (π vs π) because I used a different font for it.

Example usage:
π 22 ÷ 7

Code:

:pi :cong 22 :divide 7

Re: Forum Features

The 'post topic' button appears when you're in a board (eg. Introductions). It's in roughly the same place as the 'post reply' button is when you're in a topic.

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.

I haven't used the Hide Tag and Colour Tag for some time, and I'm just testing it out.

Re: Forum Features

Thanks for the insight all. But i'd like to know how to make text bigger. I surf using my mobile phone and most times i find it difficult viewing the solutions to most math problems(and its not the font size of my phone as that have been moderately increased) ....and since the solutions come highlighted when i click instead of having it go bigger it ends up being distorted.

Re: Forum Features

Hi;

Here is what I do. It doesn't work on all the forums that use latex but it works here.

No problem is so big or so complicated that it can’t be run away from.
