Algebra1

Including a 8% sales tax, an inn charges $189 per night. Find the inn's nightly cost before the tax is added.
I don't get it can some explaine to me please

hi Andrew,

I suggest making an equation from the information.  Call the thing you ant to find x. 

So the inn  charges $x  and then adds 8/100 times x as tax so you end up with x + 0.08x = 1.08x.  We know that makes 189 so the equation is:

1.08x = 189.  => x = 189/1.08
