It is a whole lot of jargon, authors love that stuff. Are you looking to understand how to solve one?


In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.

Make up a simple example.

ie. Choose a quadratic with two easy to find but different roots.  Then construct the sequence a1, a2, a3 using

and check out the recurrence relation.
