Workaround:

1. Disable posting and registration in the current forum. (Can be done using the Administration Panel quite easily)

2. Move the forum to http://mathisfunforum.com/archive/

3. Upload the new forum to http://mathisfunforum.com/

4. Put a link of the old archived forum in the new forum homepage among other things.

That way, you do not have to worry about the old mods or anything. Also, you will not have 185119 users to deal with. The only problem would be that we'll have to sign up again. But those who care will put up their efforts to sign up again, this ain't a problem.

So you would have 2 forums?

**In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.****If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.**** Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.**

Offline

The old one would not be a forum, it would be an archive. You'll forcibly disable anything new over there.

What do you have against it?

Pros: > You can use any mods you like without disturbing or being disturbed by the old data.

> You may also use phpBB which will give you much more elegant features and customisations and mods.

Here is an example of a forum that has an old archive and a running forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php

and http://ubuntuforums.org/

By the way, do not think that I am advocating this just because they are doing it. It is entirely my own thought and I discovered the examples later.

There are advantages to your idea, it is easy to suggest tons of idea that may work theoretically but getting them to work in reality is another matter.

My idea is atleast 10 times simpler than the idea of upgrading an existing forum.

I have been thinking about 2 working forums for a long time. But ultimately it depends on what MIF can do, what can be accomplished. pappym used to say, "a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush."

MIF is not working alone. You can assist him.

Who said anything about two working forums?

I did, but we will not go into it here.

As for assisting, I as usual have not done anything except moan and cry.

We have all the uploaded images. They are neatly sorted into folders by post id. We may not be able to upload new ones but I feel we can come up with a way to preserve the old ones.

I do not agree with the idea of two working forums: one of them will be just an archive because posting will be disabled.

But you are capable of assisting him, are you not?

But we should be able to use the "" tags and put a link in there.

That is massive work to do by hand. You could write a script but you do not have the files.

But if MIF hosts them then I could easily download it, clean it up until it is only my pictures and wait to upload if needed. See post #59.

Hi MIF;

How many images are there in all?

Which new ones?

Please look at post 51 as well

bobbym, Watch this:

Do you see the forum here: http://julianthemath.96.lt/fluxbb/

I am sorry for the delay an extreme imbecile called up just to annoy me. She succeeded. What am I seeing?

I need a break.

Hi;

What is o.O?

I do not mean to say that you do not have interesting ideas. I hope I was not rude in speaking about them.

I do not think you were rude. It's only that I did not understand what you're telling.

What am I seeing?

What are you seeing over where? Sorry, I couldn't understand what this question is about.

o.O is an emoticon conveying confusion.

Did you look at the part of post 64 that was directed to you?

Don't know exactly, they are in subfolders, with sub-subfolders of thumbnails, maybe 5000 give or take thousands.

That is a lot of images for you to upload and link each of them manually. You'll need a script.

What is your opinion on #51?

I am getting some success in displaying the images (but not uploading etc). I will continue working on it.

The problem is that the code is so different between versions, this is what a file comparison looks like:

Good to know that you can get to display the images.

(but not uploading etc)

Here are two suggestions:

1. http://mathisfunforum.com/viewtopic.php … 55#p312355 (Post 10)

2. http://mathisfunforum.com/viewtopic.php … 67#p312367 (Post 14)

I agree with what Agnishom had said, why not put this forum into /archive? Wouldn't it be easier than to upgrade it?
