Simplification of complex fractions

as the correct answer though. What am I doing incorrectly at

Thanks John,

In hindsight I realize that shabby mistake on my part.

is also not the right answer for the entire simplification. Or is it? And I should go with the "none of the above" option in the revision handbook?

well i scratched it out fast on paper, and got
2**(7x-4), which is
(2**7) / 16 I think.

I heard ** was used by IBM once for "to the power of", like the symbol "^".
