Solve for Y ?
y + x = y^a
Solve for y = ? (in terms of x and a)

Welcome to the forum. It is not always possible to algebraically solve for a variable. In this case I do not think it is possible to isolate y.
Where does the problem come from?
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
