Calculate the percentage

Hi,

My question might be a little confusing. If so let me know.. I will try to rephrase it

CompanyName  Amount
xxx                  10
yyy                   8
zzz                    9
Unknown           3

Now the Total amount is 30 .. How do i calculate the Cost allocated percentage for each company knowing that we have 3$ worth of Unknwon charges which can't be allocated to any of the Companies..

Can any one please help?

Thanks

Re: Calculate the percentage

So the numbers under the "Amount" heading refer to costs?

Is there a pre-determined policy for allocating that $3 that cannot be assigned to any of the companies?

At this point, I would just calculate the percentages using the numbers you have presented:

Company xxx: 10/30 = 1/3.
Apply this fraction to the (30 - 3 = 27): (1/3)(27) = $9

Company yyy: 8/30 = 8/30.
Apply this fraction to the 27: (8/30)(27) = $7.20

Company zzz: 9/30 = 3/10.
Apply this fraction to the 27: (3/10)(27) = $8.1

Alternately, you would calculate the initial proportions as 10/27, 8/27, and 9/27. But unless we are told the desired method, I am just guessing.

When you add the cost percentages, are they supposed to add up to a certain amount?
