5 Pirates Puzzles
I have made TWO versions of this puzzle (used to have just one).
One where the voting is done by all Pirates: 5 Pirates Puzzle
The other where the voting is done by all Pirates except the oldest: 5 Pirates Version 2 Puzzle
Have a go at the puzzles and let me know if you agree with the solution provided.

Version 2 is the only one I looked at.

Regarding the original problem (with all pirates voting):
It seems that Billy should split the loot 99:0:1:0 to ensure a vote of 50%. If he splits it 99:0:0:1 then Eddie has no motivation to vote for the split because he knows that he will get the same amount from Colin. But a split of 99:0:1:0 gives Duncan clear reason to vote yes.

Hi.
Regarding this bit:
As pirates tend to be a bloodthirsty bunch, if a pirate would get the same number of coins if he voted for or against a proposal, he will vote against so that the pirate who proposed the plan will be thrown overboard.
I would suggest adding that if a pirate would get less coins by voting against a proposal, then he would not vote against it. This is just for greater clarification of the puzzle.

I gave this a go, and my proposed solutions is under another post titled:
"5 Pirates Solution is wrong - here is the real solution" created on 4-13-2013
Since I'm new, I don't know how to put a link to that post in this message.
But, I thought I would post this here since this post is what encouraged me to actually post my proposed solution on the forum.
I had to remove the links in the reply to get this posted.

Yes, I am going to follow MIF's lead and close this one too but surely you can see I can not leave your parting comment.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
