Cross Number PuzzlesHere is my first draft of Cross Number Puzzles "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #2 2011-02-15 21:33:41
Re: Cross Number PuzzlesHi MathsisFun; In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #3 2011-02-15 23:12:02

Re: Cross Number Puzzles
What first answer? You mean one was given to me... In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Probability is the most important concept in modern science, especially as nobody has the slightest notion what it means. 90% of mathematicians do not understand 90% of currently published mathematics. #6 2011-02-16 11:16:37
Re: Cross Number PuzzlesThe one with the clue "Two Digits" ... what if they were not given? Too hard? "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #7 2011-02-16 11:17:52
Re: Cross Number PuzzlesNot for phrontister! This one took me over nine minutes! In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them. Re: Cross Number PuzzlesThanks phrontister. You won a contest in this kind of puzzle? My Goodness Gracious! "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #10 2011-02-17 14:16:12
Re: Cross Number PuzzlesNice page! I love this kind of puzzle, where all the clues refer to each other and you need to search for a foothold to get started. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #11 2011-02-17 15:14:45
Re: Cross Number PuzzlesGood point. I will look at that. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #12 2011-02-17 16:54:32

Re: Cross Number PuzzlesThanks phrontister, that is a weird one, it is sort of half right. I will look into it. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #17 2011-02-19 03:02:39

Here's a sample from some crossnumber puzzles I've got: "The good news about computers is that they do what you tell them to do. The bad news is that they do what you tell them to do." - Ted Nelson #22 2011-02-21 23:05:24

Re: Cross Number PuzzlesThere is an underlying answer, but the program does not check for uniqueness. So I validate your answers against the clues, in case you find an alternate correct answer. I think most of those alternate answers are a result of "loose" clues like "ascending digits". "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M.
