Re: Help Me With Gcse Maths

Yes, 97 is the only prime between 90 and 100.

Look at post 300.

Re: Help Me With Gcse Maths

hi Mandy,

I think you can check it yourself.

Only the prime numbers should be left un-shaded.

In post #298 you had a list of primes that you found using the prime tool.

Are the two lists the same?

If not, why not?

Look carefully at any number that is only in one list.

Either it should be in both or in neither.

How are you? Everything okay?

Re: Help Me With Gcse Maths

hi Mandy

I do understand that you are busy and that you are finding the maths difficult.

But people on this forum will help you and that will save you time and make the work less difficult.

Post 254.  What answers did you get?

Post 300.  You have two lists of primes up to 97.  Are they the same?  If not, what are the differences?

Post 269.  What answers have you now got for questions 1 and 2 ?

norman75 ?

No.  Did he make a post about your course?

He is not a member, so he must have used a guest post.

And that post has now been deleted so I cannot track him down.

Re: Help Me With Gcse Maths

No, I don't know anyone.

Two suggestions:

(i)  look on the course website and see if they have a forum / discussion area

(ii) ask your tutor.

Re: Help Me With Gcse Maths

hi Mandy,

Well done!  The red numbers are 25 and 29.

But that doesn't finish the question in the assignment.

The black numbers make the sequence 3, 8, 17, 30, 47, 68, ??, ??

The red numbers are the differences

8 - 3 = 5
17 - 8 = 9
30 - 17 = 13
47 - 30 = 17
68 - 47 = 21

So now you know that 25 and 29 are the next differences, you have to work out the next two black numbers after 68.

So is question (1) complete?

(1) odd numbers This is done.
(2) prime numbers  This still needs to be  done.
(3) multiples of 2  This is done.

(b) Look at the six numbers above again. The difference between the first and second number is 5,between the second and third 9,and between the third and fourth is 13.

(1) Work out the difference between the fourth and fifth.  This is done.
(2) between the fifth and sixth.  This is done.

(c) Use the above results to work out the seventh and eighth numbers in the series.  This still needs to be  done.

(d) Write down an explanation as to how you found these numbers.  This still needs to be  done.

(e) Use a similar method to find the next two numbers in the following pattern:

1,4,14,31,55,86  This still needs to be  done.

Then there are bits of question (2) to do.

Question 2

Use your calculator to fined the values of:

(a) 0.1615 x 0.34 This is done.

(b) 0.001615 * 0.034  This is done.

(c) 28.243 *2.6 to 2 dec. places    The rounding still needs to be  done.

(d) 0.25 * 4.5 to 2 sig. figures The rounding still needs to be  done.

Now for the fractions in post #254.

You should have a large set of flashcards that I made for you during April.

Every answer that you need for this question is one for which you have a flashcard.  I deliberately only set questions for which I had already made you the card, so if you have got the cards in front of you this question should be easy.  Some of the answers were also set in earlier posts, so it may just be a case of reviewing what you have already done.

You have already found your own list of primes in post #298.

The task in post #300 was to find the primes by shading out all the numbers that are not primes.  Did you do this?

I have found this You Tube video that does this task.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m2cdWorIq8

It is just a case of comparing the two answers to make sure they are the same.

So, are they the same?

Re: Help Me With Gcse Maths

hi Mandy

93 and 122 are both correct.

The next sequence follows exactly the same pattern.

I've made a picture below to show you the differences.

While I look at the rest of your post, see if you can do this sequence.

Re: Help Me With Gcse Maths

Did you look at

http://www.mathsisfun.com/rounding-numbers.html

This tells you all about rounding numbers.  Have a proper look at it and then either post the answers or tell me which bits you don't understand.

I'll check tomorrow morning to see how you are doing with the sequence and rounding.

Not sure what you mean.  All you have posted is correct.
