Re: Algebra :)

I took algebra for the 1st time in 9th grade
at Keene High School in New Hampshire because
I lived in a hick town that didn't have algebra
in 1 thru 8th grades.  Anyway, I remember
learning about graphs which is first about
plotting points that go right  which is X, and
going up which is Y.  Then we learned about
2 or 3 equations for a line.
y = mx + b
y - y1 = m (x - x1)
and maybe another.
We also did word problems in the middle of the
year that involved trying to use what we learned.

Like  two things are happening with numbers involved and
they are related together somehow, and you have to
figure out how to make equations and then add or
subtract the equations from each other and
multiply on both sides of the equations to make
things go away and get easier to figure out what
the answers are that fit into the equations best,
like solving for x or y.  That's about all I remember
of the 1st year.
I like it though!

Re: Algebra :)

Depends on your country and school too.

Why not get a head start here: http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/index.html

Re: Algebra :)

Technically, I'm in 8th grade too (though we call it 2nd year High School here).

Here in the Philippines, we're reviewing about solving linear equations in two variables, along with introduction to the Determinants and Cramer's Rule. Later, I think we'll be starting quadratic equations.

That's all I know for now.
