y = acosx + bsinx

Through a program which draws graphs (ex. derive), I was asked to investigate the graphs of the form y = a cos x + b sin x.

This is an open question.  So I would like help on what could I investigate.
I know a cos x + b sin x = R cos (x - alpha)  but I need more help pleasseee such as in investigating amplitudes, periods etc. (I guess).

Thankx!  Ramona
