surely there are.that is a very good question.

every quadric equation can be factored,but only in a certain field of numbers.so you can factor x^2+2x+1 in the field of integer, rationals,or real numbers.but x^2+x+1 cannot be factored in any of these fields,it can only be factored in the field of complex numbers.

when you find solution of x^2-1=0 it is the same as looking for those valus of x for which the value of y in the function y=x^2-1 is equal to 0.

the same with your problem.we have to find all values of x for which y=0.and because y=0 we have to search for intersections of your graph with the x-axis...(remember the ordered pair (x,0) is on the x-axis).

now you can substitute p=x∈A q=x∈B and r=x∈C and solve this as a tautology.

you can do this using the definitions of union intersection difference and complement of a set.

example:
x∈(A U B) if and only if x∈A or x∈B.
