Well, I mean like calculus and the mathematics of curved spacetime (nvm forget the latter). Do you think we'll ever publish articles on that?

Yes, you is the rocks

What An Excellent Idea! It'll Be The New Fad!

#529 Re: Introductions » Hi Everyone » 2006-12-17 04:22:59

Hmmm... if we have to give easily understandable explanations for the different topics, do you think we will ever be able to cover advanced math topics?

The music seems to just be a remix of Pachelbel's Canon in D. Anyone willing to offer a mathematical proof as to why everyone like's Pachelbel's Canon?

Your score rises incredibly exponentially fast if you survive long enough. My highest score is somewhere in the hundred thousands at the moment.

I guess people always have to pick on others for entertainment, a certain group or individual always has to meet an unfortunate end if the joke's gonna be funny, sorta weird in a way. I guess this time the blondes just picked the short stick hmm.
Not to detract from the quality of the joke though, it was really very funny tongue

There's a website named after that, so I'm not sure that would be a good idea...

#537 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » Eragon: The books, the movie » 2006-12-16 05:41:11

No offence but for a series which is so popular and has sold so many copies, the covers seem quite amateurish.

Yup, Censorman is a true hero.

#539 Re: Guestbook » is it really true » 2006-12-16 05:35:56

Actually, come to think of it, since ∞-∞ is undefined, and 0.999... is a type if infinity, wouldn't 9.999... - 0.999 be undefined?

#540 Re: This is Cool » 0.9999....(recurring) = 1? » 2006-12-16 05:03:25

If a circle is made up of the most basic of particles, which are indivisible, and you have the radius which is 10 particles long (the circle is 1 particle thick), and you want to find the area of the circle, you will have to multiply by pi, an irrational number. This must mean that even the most basic of particles must be divisible for fundamental maths to make sense. This is impossible however, so where does that leave us?

#541 Re: This is Cool » Cool Subtraction For Kids » 2006-12-16 03:39:23

For simple sums like 73-36, to find the difference I often get lazy with the standard methods and subtract in parts. I would find 70-40 then add 3 and 4.
I know I really should do it the proper way, it's becoming a bad habit now. tongue

Hehe, we're the main text and Wolfram is the glossary...

#543 Re: Guestbook » is it really true » 2006-12-16 03:21:37

As far as I know if you multiply 0.999... by 10, the only thing that changes is the decimal place.

i.e, When multiplying by 10, move the decimal place in 0.999... one place to the right to become 9.999... . The decimal place changes but the infinity at the end remains.

#544 Re: Guestbook » is it really true » 2006-12-16 03:15:29

It is commonly accepted by many that 0.999... = 1.

By 0.999... we mean that it has no end; that it is Infinite!
Therefore it won't end in 0, it will just keep going on forever.
You should check out the two 0.999… = 1 threads (although you will need to register) and this page:

Also:
9.999... - 0.999... = 9
