I know this question isn't that hard, but the book I'm working with has a different answer than what makes sense to me, I think it might be incorrect, but I would like verification that I am right.  Please show the work and rationale, just in case I am off.  Thanks!

A car dealer sells a SUV for $39,000, which represents a 25% profit over the cost.  What was the cost of the SUV to the dealer?

I need to know what type of formula or process to use in solving the problem below and other problems like it:

Jonathan can type a 20-page document in 40 minutes, Susan can type it in 30 minutes, and Jack can type it in 24 minutes.  Working together, how much time will it take them to type the same document?

Thanks!

I already know the answer to this problem, but I need to know the formula that should be used to solve it, and problems like it, correctly.

Here's the problem:
In his pocket, a boy has 3 red marbles, 4 blue marbles, and 4 green marbles.  How many will he have to take out of his pocket to ensure that he has taken out at least one of each color?

The answer is 9, I pretty much understand why the answer is 9 logically, but is their a mathematical formula that can be used to solve problems like this?

Thanks!
