Re: Area problems Please Help!!

y - 0 = -( x - 0 )

Now simplify.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Yes, you can.

y - 0 = -( x - 0 )

y = - x

0 = - x - y Now you can move them both over to the left to get:

x + y = 0 This works for both points.

0 + 0 = 0 True

4 + ( - 4 ) = 0 True

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Hey, I have more math like this, can you give me a hand?

My points are this: (0 , 6) , (6 , 0)

I tried to find the slope and heres my work:

Slope = M
M = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
M= (0 - 6) / (6 - 0)
M= -6 / 6
M= - 1

How am I looking so far?

If by some chance, my slope is right, my next equation would be:
*using (0 , 6)*
(y - 6) = -1(x - 6)
Given that I'm okay so far, what do I simplify it to?

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Okay your slope is okay, and we use little m for slope. Capitals are for generally matrices.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

No, in the future do it like that. The equation of course is not right. Do you see why?

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Tiny Correction:
not subtract 6 in both places, subtract zero in one place:
*using (0 , 6)*
(y - 6) = -1(x - 0)
y - 6 = -x + 0
y = -x + 6
done.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Yep, you used 6 twice. It doesn't like that. Now check that to see if it goes through your points. After you have worked it into your form.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Check like this:

( 0 + 6) = 6

(6 + 0) = 6

6 = 6?

So x - y = 6 is true?

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

And the other point? Do you see you have made an error? You have manipulated John's answer incorrectly.

y = -x + 6

y + x = 6 is correct. You have x - y = 6!

Oh okay, I used a - instead of the +

Wait how did it end up as a + in the first place? My math is all screwed up...

and also, on the problem itself it has an answer box that looks like this:

x________

The X has to be in front! What did I do?

Well yeah, if I follow John's example. If I hadn't messed up the points the 1st time I probably could have gotton close, maybe.
