That they would. y = x. Now plug in your original points.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

You have ( 3, 3 ) AND ( -6 , -6 ), They are in the form ( x , y ). So ( x = 3 , y = 3 ) for the first. Now plug in to y = x, your equation. You get 3 = 3 , that's true!

- 6 = - 6 that's true! You are done the equation passes through the 2 points.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

The way it is formatted it wants the answer to be  X-Y = ___

What Would I put for the blank if the 3's cancelled out?

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

y = x

Subtract y from both sides.

0 = x - y switcheroo.

x - y = 0 Done!

That's not true. You won't believe it but you are better than most, that I have seen.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Although I beg to differ, I will take that as a complement. tongue

Quick question, I have one like we just did, only one of the points are 0's. Do I need to modify equation in any way since they are zeros?

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Kay.

So slope first? We have (0 , 0) , (4 , -4)?

(y2-y1) / (x2-x1)

(-4-0) / (4-0)

-4 / 4

= -1?

Correct. m = slope = -1

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

okay so from there we get:

y - 0 = -1 ( x - 4)

y - 0 ( x - 4)

so x - y = 4?

Hi;

Nope! Try plugging in your points.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Your points are ( 0 , 0 ) and ( 4 , - 4). First one is the x coordinate second one is the y coordinate.

using the first point ( x = 0 , y = 0 ) plug in to your answer.

x - y = 4

0 - 0 = 4 is not true, your equation is wrong.

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

Oh I see now, that makes sense. okay.

y - 0 = x - 0

x - y = 0?

Does that work when you check, by plugging in points?

Re: Area problems Please Help!!

You have made a careless error right here:

y - 0 = x - 0
