how do u factor complex numbers??? is there any way to do taht???
like (4+3i)(6+2i) = 18 +26i
but how do we get from 18 +26i back to (4+3i)(6+2i)???

ive gotten this far.

x+yi = (a+bi)(c+di)
x+yi = ac + adi + bci - bd
x = ac - bd
yi = adi + bci
y = ad + bc

so can anyone help with this???

also is there some type of property or theroem or law or relations ship or something b/w

ad + bc

and

ac - bd

that i dont no about or something??

i no there could be many possible answers when factoring complex numbers but how do u get at least one of them?

aww bananas. i hate that. what aobut an 84 or and 89? tho i doubt taht will make much of a difference...hmmm this problem is very tricky. expecially when they expect us to do oone of thses in about an ohur or so. i hate that.

#128 Re: Help Me ! » digits... » 2007-06-03 07:57:30

so where can i get a copy of this program  on a calulator???like a Ti-83 or Ti-84??

haikus are super
mega special awesomeness
due to randomness!!!

#130 Re: Help Me ! » digits... » 2007-06-03 06:03:51

well how do u solve it in like lets say 45 mins?? cuz taht usualy how long im given to do one of these problems. is there a program taht can do taht??

#131 Re: Help Me ! » digits... » 2007-06-02 12:17:00

hmmm
             O    N   E
             O    N   E
             T    W  O
             T    W  O
    T   H   R    E   E
+  T   H   R    E   E
E   L   E   V    E   N

ok so the only one that we no what the real value is is E
O = (N+6)/2
W=2(O) - 5
but how do we find the other values??alll we no for the other digits are expressions which we cant find the values for because they use each variable in each expression

#132 Re: Help Me ! » digits... » 2007-06-02 09:56:27

but wouldnt it be possible taht the numbers towards the right add up to be relly large numbers and carry on digits as u move ot the rite where the first digit of the total mite be more than one???

ok. i get this question every year at like every math tourney. and its always the same exact problem but with different letters. and i never understood how to get it. so i need someone to help explain it to me.

it says taht each of these letteres represents a digit and V is not 0. and it wants me to find the value of each digit.

             O    N   E
             O    N   E
             T    W  O
             T    W  O
    T   H   R    E   E
+  T   H   R    E   E
E   L   E   V    E   N

so can anyone help explain this to me???

#134 Re: Puzzles and Games » one throught eight » 2007-06-02 07:02:47

hmm i dont no how many solutions there really are. i made this up when i was realy bored and i didnt check to see how many solutions there were. but there are probly a lot. but i dont think taht rotations or reflections count as different solutions

yes i know it is very strange and odd. i got that from this years MAO state convention(Louisiana) and i thought it was kinda weird. so i wanted to post it here to see if the puzzle was just retarded or if it was possible for some one to get it.

lol, good one ricky. Mr. mathsy person, i see how ur solution is correct, but it is rather unreasonable, but not more unreasonable than the real answer is so urs is also correct smile.   to mr. ma+th = fun, think about it like this.

#146 Re: Help Me ! » square roots » 2007-05-30 15:15:09

OO i get it now. but how do u do it when u square and simplify it?

#147 Re: Help Me ! » square roots » 2007-05-30 09:58:03

uhhhhh... yea. i have totally no idea what u just did. i squared it and got this untitled-2.jpgi understood almost what u did in that first one with how u found the formula for the square root of 67 +16 sqquare root 3, but how did u get the possible values for a and b???and taht second post about uhhh that algebraic number theory. im not even gonna try to mess with that. i have no idea what that is. but how did u get the values for a and b??also, how did u find the answer to it the problem w/o readin what the answer was?did u use a ti 89??or somethign??

#148 Re: Help Me ! » square roots » 2007-05-30 09:20:44

yea i did square the whole thing. it doesnt simplifiy. try it. its not taht simple. if it was, i wouldnt have posted this.
