I'm only thirteen!
My maths tutor told me this, and I'm very curious about it. Every time I try to follow it, I get confused. It apparently proves that 1=0.
x=1.
Multiply both sides by x and you get
2x=x
Take away 1 from each side which becomes
2x-1=x-1
This can also be expressed as
(x+1)+(x-1)=x-1
Divide each side by x-1 and the answer is:
x+1=1
From this, you can see that x=0. But at the beginning I said that x=1. It has therefore been proved that 1=0.
Is this a trick?
Did you complete the tower of Hanoi?
Yes, it rocks! I hate any kind of graph: they always involve trailing a finger all the way along the page, which I really, really don't like.
How old are you expected to be to be at that standard?
I like probability; what's yours?
An inflatable boy goes to his inflatable school and decides he's sick of school. So he pokes the inflatable school, his inflatable self, his inflatable friends, and his inflatable headteacher with a pin. The headteacher goes to him and says: You've let me down, you've let yourself down, and you've let the school down!
Um...what kind of algebra is that?
