(Note that because I am turning these into Mathopolis questions, I will be posting these one by one.)
1. Say the license plates in Mathopolis consist of 2 letters followed by 3 digits. Assuming that none of the digits or letters can be the same, how many possible license plates are there?
Wow, one month between the last two posts?
I think it's fine, it's sometimes fun to see what he comes up with and to figure out what message he is trying to get across. I think we should leave it, we'll miss LQ's ways of speaking if it goes away.
I found a 12x12 magic square in a book I read the other day... maybe I'll find it and post it.
It's pretty fun!
This is actually an exercise on Brain Age (It's a mind training game.) It says doing this helps the prefrontal cortex.
That's the conversion chart.
Good point Jane...
*head explodes*
I give up.
If that's the case, I have a used car to sell you. I have a bunch of people that will tell you it's a great deal.
Sorry, I'm too young to drive. My feet don't even reach the pedals.
Actually, I've done a little thinking and changed my mind on it. 0^n is 0, so I'm inclined to believe that 0^0 is equal to 0 as well. Think about this: the definition of a^b is axaxaxa... b times. If it's raised to the 0 power, then a^0 is just this: -> <-. 0 is defined to be the absence of something, so 0^0 is 0. At least in my opinion.
Now a days hackers have gone to such limits to even infect the 'X"(close) button of your browsers, so i recommend either pressing Alt + F4 or opening up Task Manager and clicking End Task. (the latter will close the whole browser.)
I don't believe this is correct. "Infecting" the close button would amount to malicious code being able to infiltrate and modify the browser code. If this is possible, then the malware would already have full access to your system. As such, there would be no reason to infect such a thing.
I'm a little late to the party here, but hackers can create a window without the standard close, minimize/maximize, move to bar buttons. Instead, they put in custom ones that download things onto your computer. I've heard of people that had their computer infected after they rolled over an ad on the way to the X button. I would agree to press Alt+F4 to close a window. But if your computer is bogged down, don't get impatient and start going Alt-F4Alt-F4Alt-F4Alt-F4Alt-F4... It will only shut down your computer. Obviously not a good idea.
Google says 0^0 is 1.
Yahoo says 0^0 is 1.
Windows Live Search says 0^0 is 1.
I says 0^0 is 1.
This was very professionally done! The NESW mazes trip me up a bit, but I'll learn sometime or other. The 2 Dots maze could use a little less space between the dots so that it is less confusing. But still, nice job!
*bump*
I was in a competition with 5 others on my team this year to create the best solution to climate change. One main problem is that pine/bark beetles are destroying the trees in our forests (especially a pain in Northern US and British Columbia). Live forests are carbon dioxide sinks, while dead forests are carbon dioxide emitters. As you can see, pine beetles are a major contributor to climate change. Our team decided to make a rocket able to be backpacked by the average hiker to carry beetle-resistant tree seeds or beetle predator eggs and disperse them widely. Our team won 1st place presentation in Colorado, and we were invited to submit our project to a panel of judges that will decide 6 teams to go to Denmark and try to implement their solution. We are currently working on these three main issues with a rocket:
-Putting in a delayed charge to make the seeds shoot to the outside of the rocket, instead of going into the rocket (easy enough to implement, just haven't yet)
-A smaller flame or a higher launching platform so that there is no fire hazard (We are thinking of using compressed air to launch the rocket up a ways before the engine kicks in.)
-Less noise so that the rocket doesn't scare away wildlife (The fix to this one is the same as the fire hazard one.)

- does MIF even have proof?!
I have reason to believe they are...
The way he said it made it seem like he had proof.
MIF, I'd suggest that, if possible, take this issue to court.
In Firefox 3, I got 5th place, but in my page it said that I got first. Maybe a remnant of careless' hacking, or maybe my browser.
I hate it when people do things like this. It's pointless, as you've shown, it's wrong, and it's disruptive to the community of the forum. There should be punishment other than banning for major spamming like this.
Good explaination, John. Here's a link to 10,000 digits of pi, if you were ever to need it. http://www.nerdparadise.com/math/reference/digits/pi/
I'm getting a little far-fetched in desperation for an answer, but could they have gotten into the file that has the settings like flood control? Or they could have been sock puppets (I'm assuming you didn't read through ALL of them). Could you tell me what the posts were? That might help to pin down why/how they did it.
Imagine this. You, Frank, and George are extremely mad at each other. You decide to go into a duel to settle the problem. Everyone gets only one shot. (And yes, more than one person can win this duel.) George is the best shot. He never misses. Frank is the next best shot, hitting people 2/3 of the time. You're the worst shot, hitting targets 1/3 of the time. It is decided that you should go first, then Frank, then George. Who should you aim for (assuming that everyone knows how skillful each other are. and why?
My OS (Windows XP) won't let me save it because it's a picture link to the LaTeX source code.
It just doesn't show up. (I'm assuming you're talking about the images) It's definitely under 1501x1501 pixels and 100 KB.
Sorry to double post, but I did a screen capture for people who don't use dark backgrounds.
Yuck.
(EDIT: Hmm. I can't seem to upload images.)
No, the joke is that the narrator of the joke is including himself in the second group of the joke.
I totally agree with Mathsyperson.
