Right after the title "Summary", it says "thaey" instead of "they". Other than that, I noticed nothing. Good read for people who havn't heard about the different number sets.

You are one. What good has treating other people like they're inferior to you ever given you? Other than loneliness and unpopularity. I'm baffled as to what you get out of being here and acting like you do; not friends, that's for sure.

I think he might have corrected this after you posted Ricky, but it's hard to tell since he hasn't responded, bbut it says: "Rational Numbers: {p/q : p and q are integers, q is not zero}"

I guess that post was aimed at me? Let me take a look at what you said, and I'll tell you what I think.

Laterally Speaking wrote:

There is a good movie to watch (namely, An Inconvenient Truth), that really sends an honest message across (I think).

I have not seen it, and don't have any plans to see it any time soon. Why? Because there are plenty of other resources, and I can't check them all. I'm sure Davis Guggenheim managed to make a good entertaining movie. Bit naive to think one movie will provide all the answers, though, isn't it?

Laterally Speaking wrote:

In any case, don't just say something like "oh, my. I'd really like to know, I just can't seem to find out how."

Do not put words into my mouth. I never said I'd really like to know. Actually, I couldn't care less. Biology, geology, etc. are not among my interests, so I'll leave others to do the research.

Laterally Speaking wrote:

If you say something like that, all it means is that you aren't trying, just trying to make others think you are.

Well, I specifically said "I don't know." If this leads anyone to thinking that I know all the answers, that's them being stupid; can't do anything about that. I'll say it again, and this time with a disclaimer:

The following actually means what it says, don't be fooled!
I do not know the answers. I'm not going to find out either, because I can't - partly because I won't. My time is better spent elsewhere.

#31 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » Global Warming scenarios » 2007-07-10 01:39:48

Hmm, you know. An apple is food and it can be cold. A car can also be cold, so watch this:

My "apple" is cold.
My "car" is cold.

Oh my... A car is essentially the same as an apple, I'd never have guessed - until I invented this illogical system for comparing two things!

Aaanyway, global warming. Is it happening? Well, temperatures seem to have been rising for some years, so the globe is warming == global warming. Did we cause it? Is it going to continue happening? Are we going to continue causing it?... I don't know.

Interesting, indeed. What I find the most interesting, is that the "Ten Politically Incorrect Truths About Human Nature" they picked out, and you called potentially controversial, are all about se x(sorry for avoiding the filter here). I'm not going to commit hate here, but I'm pointing a big finger at religion.

Hi Patrick, what have you been up to?

Lots! Main reason I havn't visited this forum has been two things: School and photography. Really wanted to do well in school, since I had been slacking off the first semester tongue Got an A in all the classes I care for, so I was happy with that smile Only 2 years to go, and then I'm off to university.

Photography. Well, I have always loved to look at photos (not the photoalbum kind, the stuff you see in National Geographic, etc), so I thought, why not give it a go as a hobby? I had gotten $1.000 from school, because I had been a good example to other students(that's what the teachers thought at least. Don't do all my homework, school's just too easy here in Denmark). So coupled that up with some money I had on my bank account, and bought a Canon EOS 400D (aka Digital Rebel XTi in the US) + some random stuff to go with it. It's lots of fun, but takes lots of time as well.

On top of that, there's all the time that goes to going to concerts, bars, clubs, beach, etc., etc. with friends. So this has been a very busy year in my life. Lovely smile Now that school's off, I kinda remembered this site again, and thought I'd drop by and see what was going on!

So, what has been going on? I see the threads on infinity are still alive! faint Not gonna go into that death trap again, that's for sure.

Just a little comment on the paper:

Pascal’s Pyramid is not actually made up by Pascal, but named this way because is has similar properties.

It has similar properties to Pascal? You mean Pascal's triangle by any chance? wink I know it's not a very critical mistake, a mistake none the less smile

You're saying he's remembering pi to 22,514 - but according to himself, he sees the decimals like a landscape, and can recite them without having seen them before. That is, he's kinda calculating the decimals. He might just be making that up though. Also, when he multiplies two numbers, he sees each number as a shape spaced apart. He can then 'analyze' the shape in between and find the product. Again, that's his words.

I saw a program about savants in general, and him in particular. Very interresting program smile

Okay, so the set theory thread has gotten a little out of hand. I therefore suggest that we discusss a standard that will be used. Say, for each topic, if there are two or three commonly used symbols used in that field - we pick one, and use that in each post in that particular thread. I don't know if this will be efficient, but I think it would be great for the purpose of understanding what's meant.

I think that's true for many mathematicians now a days. Many companies are facing increasingly complex problems, and some of these problems requires help from mathematicians. At the moment, I think teaching at university could be very cool, but this might change totally when I go to/finish university . If I even decide to study mathematics, I'm not even sure yet).
