I tested out the last few examples on this page:
Wikipedia Examples

against my calculator, and it came up with

for #1

and for #2:

Why is this?

And isn't the last equation that they have algebraically incorrect anyway, because it doesn't keep the negative sign?

Does anyone know how I might be able to graph a sum or product on a graphics calculator?

For instance, I type in

on my TI-89 but it won't appear at all.

(Btw was there a calculator forum in the past? I can faintly remember there being one)

For the past two years, nobody's come to trick or treat. Is it going out of fashion?

Perhaps they should stamp our world with a big fat copyright stamp. Basically everything is taken now.

#258 Re: Help Me ! » Some multi-choice questions... » 2007-01-23 05:55:35

Thanks mathsy and dross. Questions 1-2 make sense and I'll try gnawing through question 3.

Oh, and I hope you did well in your exam mathsy, next time if you've got an exam coming up you should attend to it first instead of worrying about my question. smile

#259 Re: Help Me ! » Some multi-choice questions... » 2007-01-23 03:27:18

Hmmm, how did you come up with the conclusion that 8*3*5*7 will give the lowest multiple of 1 through 8?

#260 Re: Help Me ! » Some multi-choice questions... » 2007-01-22 21:28:09

Yeah, very clear, thanks Dross XD

A woman has three school age children. The product of her age and the ages of her three children is 16555. The difference between the ages of her eldest and youngest children is:

(A) 4 (B) 5 (C) 6 (D) 7 (E) 11

Not much of a clue... something to do with factors maybe dunno

Consider all the numbers, bigger than 8, which when divided by 2, by 3, by 4, by 5, by 6, by 7 and by 8, each time give a remainder of 1. Find the sum of the two smallest such numbers.

(A) 842 (B) 2522 (C) 3362 (D) 912 (E) 2532

Not much of a clue... hmm

A cube is given. How many planes are there which pass through at least three of its vertices?

(A) 8 (B) 12 (C) 16 (D) 20 (E) 36

What is this question even asking??? dunno

I found this question on one of those Math Competition papers. I don't think you are allowed to use a calculator, or it would probably be easy XD. So yeah... what's the fastest method, just multiplying everything one by one, or is there some scary (and possibly faster) product formula?

Can you think of a word with two consecutive i's?

#272 Re: Help Me ! » without the calculater » 2007-01-20 07:53:48

I wikipedia-ed exact trigonometric constants and it said:

Wikipedia wrote:

All values of sine, cosine, and tangent of angles with 3° increments are derivable using identities: Half-angle, Double-angle, Addition/subtraction and values for 0°, 30°, 36° and 45°. Note that 1° = π/180 radians.

As 25 degrees is not divisible by 3, I would presume that there is no exact value for it. Although I must say, I'm not an expert in this area.

79. 24
81. (5-2)*180/5 = 108
82. 501*250 = 125250 (sorry took longer than 10 seconds on this one hmm)
83. I believe the formula is

so 10.
