No rings, no mention of a BF. Her Facebook has no picture of a guy anywhere, no indication that she is in a relationship. I get the feeling she is single although I can't be certain -- I did think that adriana was single before she told me the 'truth'.

It is a tougher time to be a teenager -- people seem to be more insecure with themselves than ever before.

Hmm, I'm not sure yet. She said she spent her weekend doing problem sheets, watching TV, staying indoors, cleaning the house. Maybe she doesn't get out much, like me.

Sometimes you need things in common and sometimes you do not. Sometimes two people can develop new interests that they both share. Whatever is the case, you will communicating with her very intimately. If you are able to do this you will overcome any resistance. Draw her out and get her to talk about herself.

-How her first week has been
-What options she picked for the next term
-What course she is doing
-What she wants to do after graduation
-What A-levels she did
-Whether or not she always wanted to do maths
-How her weekend was

Do you think this is moving in the right sort of direction?

I want to eventually ask her what her long-term plans are -- i.e. if she wants to get married and have children. It's an opportunity for her to mention a boyfriend, her sexuality or anything that might be pertinent to the situation. But, at the same time, I don't want to appear too clingy... that would happen if it became a one-way conversation, right?

She is definitely responding well so far. Not intimate, she has at least found my anecdotes about living in halls funny.

The only catch is that she tends to respond to the e-mails by telling me about her, but not asking me anything in return. Is this a bad thing?

At the very least, she has stepped out of the mentor role in conversing with me.
