Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

Yes, you might see someone else there.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
I have the result, but I do not yet know how to get it.
All physicists, and a good many quite respectable mathematicians are contemptuous about proof.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

I've met the girls at the meetings. They don't seem like great prospects...

No, that is not long enough in most cases.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

Trouble is, most girls are international students, with very poor English. The girl who approached me was a breath of fresh air because she was English (not a racial thing -- I was just happy that I didn't have to speak slowly and as simply as possible).

Have you ever dated someone who did not speak English?

Nope, I would not have been able to communicate with them.

Yes, her. I get the feeling this will be another dead end though.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

Perhaps, but it has cost you nothing. If you can remain detached you are not risking your emotions or your ego. If you and her get together that is fine, if not that is fine too.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

It might cost me a little time, but you are right. If I am detached then I cannot be hurt. Unless, the girl finds a way to make me attached and I am unable to resist... and given that I have no experience, I fear that this may be the case eventually.

I meant having to deal with two girls. Although I feel if I asked them out now, they would reject me.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

That is always a possibility. But before you go imagining that why not wait and see what happens.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

I don't know what I am waiting for, though. The girl who sat next to me is called Katrina, and let's call my mentor M for short. (Ironically she hates computational mathematics so she probably would not use M, ever.)

Katrina hasn't responded in three days. I was thinking of asking to meet up with her to get the lecture notes for today and tomorrow (I'm ill so I can't go to the lectures myself) -- but that might prove difficult. M, on the other hand, I only get to see once weekly... I do have her number though.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

I would wait a bit before contacting Katrina. Let's see if she sits by you again. That is what I would do but I am known to be a little on the slow side.

So M hates computational mathematics? I have had a belly full of that today. Send her in here and I will speak to her. Then she will hate me and computational mathematics.

Re: Linear Interpolation FP1 Formula

Hmm. The annoying thing is that someone else might sit next to me instead of Katrina.

She could even frequent this forum -- she does like probability and statistics though, so she might get along with you in some sense. I don't know how she feels about combinatorics.
