Very good that you are relaxing. What is the weather like there?

Nice and warm, 26 degrees has been the highest so far. Haven't been out much, waiting for my book to arrive in the post so I can go out and do some maths in the heat of the summer. I heard that it is very hot where you are on the news?

Yes, record breaking. They said 118F. I went outside with my digital thermometer which is accurate to .1° It read 122F. The hottest I have ever known was 119F.

And a lot of people are dropping like flies out there too, I heard?

I have heard of 1 fatality and a bunch of people who are suffering from heat stroke. That was 3 days ago, could be more by now.

That is terrible. And it is only going to get hotter apparently.

Yes, that is what they are saying. The worst thing will be when the power gets overloaded. Then we will have a blackout.

Sounds like a nightmare. And Brits are complaining at anything higher than 20...

Over here in Seattle they had a record 93F which is 6 degrees higher than their maximum. A heat wave is relative.

Yes, and 20 degrees in Britain is nowhere near our maximum.

Do you have Schaum's Outlines - Advanced Calculus?

By Spiegel?

What about it would you like to know?

Do you think it gives a good treatment of the topics it covers?

There are some numerical errors in Spiegel's books. They are good for problems and cover some topics that are difficult to find elsewhere.

The downside is many problems are not done and it is usually intended as a supplement to some textbook that he never names.

My copy just arrived in the post; I had been scrolling through it online over the last week, I find it quite accessible. There are a lot of typos though, as you pointed out (for a third edition, much more than one would expect).

He has other books too and they have obvious typos but it is still a pretty good book.

I agree, lots of questions and examples making it easy to follow.

His finite difference book is one of the best ever done.

Do you mean his other Schaum's book on Finite Differences or another one?

His Schaum's Advanced Calculus book does have some nice contour integration exercises.

**zetafunc.****Guest**

Never mind, he only wrote the Schaum's one, right? Amazon showed two but they were actually the same book.

Hi;

Yes, his one on finite differences.

Have to do some chores, be back later.
