Yes, but increasingly fewer each year.

Hmmm, that is a problem. That is what happened over here. One thing is for certain, less is not more, despite what they say.

The thing that shocked me most was that pretty much half the people taking a maths A-level get an A in it. That is awful. Talk about maths being devalued.

That is caused by easier tests or better trained people?

I think it is a result of sticking to the same type of questions for many years. 10 years ago, a candidate might find it hard if there is only 1 past paper to practice. Now, there are at least 20 for each module -- since the exam doesn't change in its monotonous style, it is much easier to pass with so many 'copies' from previous years. I don't think the exams have got easier, nor the students 'smarter'.

Why is that? Lazy test makers?

For the most part, I think so. They claim in their syllabus to test proof by contradiction and by counter-example, but in the 400 or so maths papers I have done, never have I encountered one question like that.

The true test of any system is how well it is meeting the needs of the society it is in.

Are you better prepared because of the system?

Yes, but the style of questions means it is possible to have no idea what is going on.

Common problem in mathematics.

It is the whole 'read, remember and regurgitate' that people want to replace with 'read, reflect and respond'.

Thinking is on the way out. Soon to replaced by doing what everyone else does.

Dress the same. Talk the same. Think whatever the latest pop star tells them to think in the album.

A lot is not good enough. We need more of them. You will have to be liquidated to make way for more. What do you think of that idea?

Is it a good idea for nobody to reflect for themselves?

Of course not. The whole idea is to have a perfectly unused brain when you die. That way you can get your money back.

Yes, they will probably remove the brain at birth and keep it in cold storage. When you die they put it back in.

Hmm, that would explain H's brain. Someone probably dropped it before putting it in her.

Possibly it may have rolled around on the floor and been kicked by passing pedestrians. There will be a big call for competent brain removers in the future. I am thinking of investing in it and buying some stock.

Brain removers, that reminds me of what they did in the concentration camps. I read about it, horribly gruesome.

Hopefully, I was just joking. Nobody wants to see that comeback.
