Hannah? You had better refresh my memory about her.

**I agree with you regarding the satisfaction and importance of actually computing some numbers. I can't tell you how often I see time and money wasted because someone didn't bother to run the numbers.**

Hannah. Friend of adriana's but adriana says she doesn't know her that well. Nice-looking blonde, I met her on those maths Saturday classes. These days she takes ages to reply; recently she got back to me after a 6 week wait. From Bosnia, plays tennis as a hobby, going to do maths at Oxford, likes it when I teach her maths. Haven't met up with her yet.

What will it take to meet her?

She needs to e-mail me a reply first so I can arrange a meeting. I haven't got her number, so I can't really do anything...

I just hope she doesn't live further away than adriana does, that would be a huge pain.

She also said that she was waiting for the right guy.

Ha! How the heck do they know who the right guy is? Does she have radar too!

I would like to have their technology, whatever it is.

Everyone is on their Easter break now. I was hoping I could use the hell out of this time to meet up with some of these girls. It hasn't turned out that way. I could meet up with Katie, but she lives pretty far away too.

How long is the Easter break nowadays?

That is very good. You can use the time to relax and study some math of your choice.

Sadly, not really. I spend my time preparing for STEP. Those were the exams I helped adriana get started with, and what Hannah needs to get started with also.

Even on the break?

Yep. In fact, as we speak, there is a STEP Easter school being run at Cambridge for offer-holders.

What are the advantages to doing well on STEP?

Although my UCL offer is unconditional (meaning I could just bunk school permanently if I wanted to), I still want to do well in my exams, because:

-In the event that I have to drop out of uni, having great A-levels as a back-up will make me more employable

-Sometimes unis can offer scholarships to people who do exceptionally well academically

-For STEP in particular, it is fun solving problems and they say that the 'proofy' style of it prepares you adequately for undergraduate maths courses

Of course, I would prefer to learn the kind of maths I want, but I would not be doing myself a favour my bunking school and finishing with A*A*A*AAB, instead of straight A*s. All that time I spent working hard last year -- I would like a reward, basically.

Hi;

Okay but remember too much work has a downside. If you tire out then you will not do as well.

I learned that last year... as a result, I don't spend a lot of time over-revising, and sometimes I just get bored of it and look up other things in maths, instead of STEP.

I wonder why Hannah is taking so long to reply these days, before she'd e-mail me every day with really long replies. Like 1000 words. Now I am lucky to get a reply once every few weeks.

She might be studying hard too.

1000 words would take anyone a good amount of time.

Her last e-mail was about 30 words long...

I think she is just bored of me. Same with adriana.

That is a possibility. If you were exchanging 1000 word emails you should have asked right then. They have no patience or tolerance for guys who do not ask right away. Matter of a fact they expect you to ask within 10 minutes of the initial meeting.

You need to be. The better looking she is the faster other guys are asking. She gets spoiled. They also do not understand waiting.

Is that suitable for girls my age? I have heard they get creeped out by guys doing that so early.

You should know from experience that is probably false. The longer you wait the less likely are your chances. You have proof of that with several of these girls. How can you ask when they do not contact you anymore?
