Yes, I have seen this happen. A lot of girls get easily offended compared to guys who don't seem to get broken so easily. I am ashamed to say that I did stroke F's ego a bit and made her feel better. I knew what I was doing, I just wanted her to feel better, which was stupid.

It all changed when I asked her what her plans for the summer were, and she ignored me after that. About 6 months prior to that she said "sorry I think you've misunderstood, I'll only talk to you about maths/uni applications only". I didn't think she meant it, she came across as so informal in recent e-mails.
