It is tough to tell with her. I don't think she is that shy.

Hi;

Sorry for the delays. My phone is very busy today. If she is not shy then you have a good chance with her.

You have the opposite problem to me. My phone is rarely ever called or texted, so whenever I get an important call/text I tend to miss it.

She hangs around with girls, but not a lot of boys. But on the other hand, I hang around with boys, but not a lot of girls.

That does not mean much. People tend to hang with their friends which despite what hollywood says are usually the same gender.

So it is not a great indicator of whether or not someone is shy?

You have spoken to her in person. Was she shy? That is the best indicator.

She didn't appear to be.

Now if you could only get her to know that mathematicians are superior to zoologists then you are in heaven.

Why would I be in heaven?

Just a joke. Everytime I have met up with one of those bio people they always hated mathematicians.

I don't understand why they hate us. We don't hate them, do we?

I do not like them very much. Hate is too draining.

I wonder if I can find a way to make her like maths in any way.

That may be difficult. Perhaps you can tell her about the history of math.

I'd have to do some research for myself on that. I am not able to give the complete history. I think telling her the history of maths would bore her.

How about a 150 page dissertation on the accumulation of errors in floating point computations? That will thrill her silly.

I think if I sent her that she would want me to read a 150-page zoology paper. Torture for the both of us...

You could counter with Andy's original 200 page proof.

Andy as in Andrew Wiles? She may not be interested in FLT. I would have to think about what would appeal to her. Typically I have found that the three things my friends are impressed by are calculus 'tricks' (like fractional calculus), complex numbers, and modular arithmetic.

I was joking about Andy's proof. It even put him to sleep while reading it.

Much better is number theory. Or why computers can not really do arithmetic.

Number theory is great. Maybe an appropriate choice for PJ, although being a biologist she may dislike it if she cannot see an immediate application.

**zetafunc.****Guest**

Wait, what do you mean by computers can't do arithmetic?

You can always explain how the factoring of numbers relates to cryptography.

I don't know. I get the feeling maths is vomitworthy to her. Maybe she will like the statistics (the most relevant field to biologists I guess).

Yes, they like statistics as long as it agrees with their pet theories.
