Listen the good gambler knows the 55 - 45 end of a bet. A sure thing, that almost never occurs. You already asked one and bombed out. It did not kill you.

But from what I have seen this looks more like a 5% chance of success than 45-55%. I think she just likes to talk a lot to people in general.

You must know that your percentages are subjective. You have no way of pinpointing them to even one digit of precision. Could be 15%, could be 35%, could be 98%, for all you know.

Yes, it could... I don't understand though, if she was interested in me and willing to ask me lots of questions in front of lots of people, why would she resist asking me out? When I'm around her I make the assumption that she does like me just to be safe (so that if she does like me she'd be more inclined to ask me out) but it hasn't appeared to have made a difference so far.

Are you waiting for her? She might be waiting for you...

Possibly... she seems really confident though, like the type of girl who would ask a guy out. She doesn't seem like the waiting type...

Another subjective viewpoint. How can be sure of that? How can you assign a probability to it?

If you are not ready, then do not ask her. If you are ready then you should.

The thing is, every time I say "okay, today I am probably going to ask her out", I get a conflicting piece of evidence that would suggest that she doesn't like me at all. For instance, receiving random weird looks from her, being completely ignored multiple times, getting berated randomly. I don't understand that.

Weird? Could be exasperation at your inability to make a decision. Could be a lot of things.

Ignored? Sometimes people are busy with other people. They have their own needs too.

Berated? How?

But she wasn't busy with other people, we were having a practice fire drill and walking across a long field, then she just walked straight past me and ignored my 'hello'. Maybe she was in a bad mood but it didn't look like it beforehand. Berated, hmm, wrong word. Basically she says I am weird/boring sometimes. By weird looks, I mean that, for example, when I smiled at her she'd make a bemused face at me.

Means nothing! Women are different. Why not ask her what her intentions are?

How would I ask her that?

Find something you both like to do and get her to do it with you.

Hmm... that sounds easy but I have no ideas at all. I don't think I've ever asked anyone to do something with me that we both enjoy.

Well then it will be a good learning experience for you.

I'm confused, is this supposed to be a dating idea?

To you it will be a date. I presume you like her.

Is going out for a coffee a bit too obvious?

Of course it is obvious. But she will act like it isn't and so should you.

This is how I asked F (before she rejected me):

"Do you want to maybe go for a coffee sometime, over the weekend?"

That didn't work. Is there anything about that statement that is creepy/off-putting?

Nope, depends on who is asking it.

I was smiling at her when I said it, which may have creeped her out a bit. Is it best to keep a straight face, i.e. not smile at all?

Nothing creeps girls out. They are a lot tougher than they look. That one did not like you at that moment. They change you know.

If she does great. If not then find something else.

There is an old proverb goes like this:

When dating Helga, one must have Trudi and Inga waiting in the wings.
