You can know something without seeing it. You can calculate things that are not in the physical world, too. "The physicists defer only to mathematicians, and the mathematicians defer only to God ..." - Leon M. Lederman #28 2007-08-31 03:20:35

Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!Germs are finite (to the best of our knowledge!), but you can apply mathematics that uses infinite concepts to model how they behave. Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!perhaps if domestos paid .001 percent more then they do right now to make their products, they could have that .001 percent of germ killing in the product and we would be happy for the rest of eternity! #31 2007-08-31 10:53:56
Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!I’m sure there are substances that kill 100% of all germs – maybe concentrated hydrofluoric acid or caesium hydroxide – but honestly. do you really want something that is as powerful as that, when all you need is to get rid of a few germs? If you accidentally spill such a substance onto yourself, it will probably permanently destroy every cell in the part of the body spilt on. It might even kill you if you’re not careful. Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!Quote:" A cleaning agent that kills 99.999 per cent of all germs is more than good enough. What are the 0.001 per cent of germs that survive going to do to you anyway? " #33 2007-09-04 23:25:02
Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!Anthony.R.Brown, they only say 99.999% because there is most likely to be a piece of bacteria they have not discovered yet. What's the argument? #34 2007-09-04 23:34:07
Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs! But how do we know that the undiscovered portion of bacteria makes up 0.001% of the total? It's probably more than that, but there's no way to tell for certain until we discover them all. But of course there's no way of knowing when we've done that. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #35 2007-09-04 23:37:00
Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!Yes, that is exactly what they state in most advertisements ... but I doubt they'll ever say the correct mathematical statement. #36 2007-09-05 12:50:15
Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!whatever it is, I hate soap ads because they try to clean my absolutely lovely and dirty television set. I shall be on leave until I say so... #37 2007-09-05 21:16:23

Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs! In the case of Anne Berlin, that is absolutely not true, but I see your perspective. Clean everyone with Dettol. #39 2007-09-08 00:53:16

Re: Domestos Kills 99.999...Percent of all Germs!Given that there are probably billions of germs on whatever surface you're cleaning, it's almost guaranteed that one or two will survive whatever treatment you're giving. Why did the vector cross the road? It wanted to be normal. #42 2007-09-10 23:41:23
