Optical Illusions, et al

1. Read out loud the text inside the triangle in image 1.

More than likely you said, "A bird in the bush," and........
if this IS what YOU said, then you failed to see
that the word THE is repeated twice!
Sorry, look again.

2. In black you can read the word GOOD, in white the word EVIL (inside each black letter is a white letter). It's all very physiological too, because it visualizes the concept that good can't exist without evil (or the absence of good is evil ).

3. You may not see it at first, but the white spaces read the word optical, the blue landscape reads the word illusion. Look again! Can you see why this painting is called an optical illusion?

4. This one is quite tricky!
The word TEACH reflects as LEARN.

5. You probably read the word ME in brown, but.......
when you look through ME
you will see
YOU!

Finally, a test....

Count every " F" in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE
RESULT OF YEARS OF
SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

(SEE BELOW)

HOW MANY ?

WRONG, THERE ARE 6 -- no joke.
READ IT AGAIN !
Really, go Back and Try to find the 6 F's before you scroll down.

The reasoning behind is further down.

The brain cannot process "OF".

Re: Optical Illusions, et al

For some reason 'of' and 'the' are hard to count because people normally skim over them when reading normally.

I only counted 5 unless you count the f in following in the first sentance

Re: Optical Illusions, et al

There are 3 'OF's in the capitalized sentence, then there are others in finished, files, and scientific.

Yes, but more specific links are often better.

Taking the extreme example, if I posted a link to The Internet, then by your reasoning no other links would be needed because mine would encompass the lot of them. And yet, my link is also completely useless.

Re: Optical Illusions, et al

I still don't get Devanté's one, even after backing away from the screen. The right one starts to get a bit of a frown, but the left one certainly doesn't get any calmer.

Jane's is a very good one. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I notice that the people look much more natural when there are 12 of them than when there are 13. So maybe it kind of chops little bits off all of those 12 people and splices them all together into an extra person somehow.

You have to stand really, really, really far back. Or you can zoom out with your browser (I’m using IE7 Beta, which has zoom function) which also works.

EDIT: Here’s Devanté’s pic at 50% original size. Now move further back …

Yup, that’s exactly what happens. In the scene with 13 people, the person in front on the far left, for example, has a bit of his head cut off, the peron at the back in the middle has legs that are far too short, etc. These chopped-off bits and pieces then go to make up the 13th person.

Actually that isn't the correct reason. The brain does process every word, but the brain does not register the word 'of' as containing an f, because it's pronounced "ov".

If you read it backwards, you'll catch every single one, so it's not a case of "skimming".

Re: Optical Illusions, et al

Here is a simple visual illusion I made out of MS Paint. You might think the circle of the left has a darker shade of grey than the circle on the right.

Illusion.png

In fact, the two circles are the same shade of grey! eek If I hadn’t created the image myself, I might never have believed it. tongue

Hi Jane;

Excellent and so pleasing to the eye.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.
